Guide Dogs For The Blind - Can You Help? |
|
Having just read the stories above I now know the US equivalent charity is called Guiding Eyes for the Blind. And instead of calling them guide dogs, as we do here, they're called Seeing Eye dogs in the US. Different name, but the end result is just the same. (Though I was slightly confused that the second story referred to two different Guide Dogs schools. Could it be that in America there are actually a number of seperate organisations all with different names, but all of which strive for the same ends?) And if you read the first story you'll see that the local training centre referred to (in Lexington) is in exactly the same boat as the one in Huddersfield, England, that I referred to in the newsletter - they're appealing for puppy walkers. Isn't it spooky that I've only just written on this subject and so soon afterwards these stories crop up?!! Anyway, I guess I was basically correct in my assumption that it's not only relevant to residents of Huddersfield. My apologies to all you US residents who had to put up with me talking about Guide Dogs For The Blind as I'd never heard of Guiding Eyes for the Blind. But I'm sure you could figure out what the underlying sentiment was all about. So if you live in the US and this subject has touched a nerve with you, look up your local Guiding Eyes for the Blind centre (or whatever it's called if there are in fact a number of different organisations where you live) and tell them you're interested in helping. And just as I said yesterday, if you _do_ go ahead with this please let me know. I would be absolutely thrilled if someone took on the role of a puppy walker as a result of having read my article..... Recommended reading "Dog Training Blueprint To Success".
